Meeting Place Organic FarmHuron County, Ontario
The early seeded buckwheat green manure crop (see June) has grown well in the cool wet weather and in less than 6 weeks, grown tall and started to bloom. Since we don't want it to set seeds and become a weed it is disced down and incorporated in the soil, providing some organic matter and nutrient recycling as well as having served to shade out a generation of annual weeds. Here one of our apprentices, Glenn is discing it down using a 6 foot one way team disc. It only takes one pass to chop it down, but repeat discing over a couple weeks is necessary to chop it up and incorporate it into the soil.
