-------------------------- |
The NB Department of Agriculture, in conjunction with conventional apple growers, set out to collect predatory mites last fall. They tried various types of cloth to see which would collect the highest quantity of them, and proved the mites aren't stupid - they preferred the plush velvet! They then stored the cloth and mites over the winter and passed on samples to more farmers, including me, to spread the mites throughout orchards in New Brunswick. Since I haven't had large problems with small, chewing insects, I am interested in seeing what difference these mites will make. |
