Guilford's Organic Seed & FeedClearwater, Manitoba May 2004: View from the front window
Its May 21st and land is slowly coming to life. The Gold Finches have arrived along with a multitude of other birds such as Robins, Baltimore Orioles, Grosbeaks, etc. A blizzard 2 days after Mothers Day kept us home-bound for a couple of days and we lost power for a few hours. The snow storm took its toll on a few birds which I found on the ground after the snow disappeared. Other than a few potatoes for the Harvest Moon Festival in September, we havent planted any of the garden yet, and as you can see the trees havent come out in leaf yet. Most of the conventional farmers in the area got some crop, but for us in the organic world, it's generally best to wait for the ground to warm up and a flush of weeds to appear. Well all that has happened, now it's a case of waiting for it to dry up. One starts to get a little impatient.
