May 2004: Bulls, goat & donkey

It was a snowy afternoon on the farm and the bulls and billy goat are taking it easy under cover in the loose housing while our donkey heads over to get some hay. The billy goat is there to help keep the bulls from fighting and it’s believed that the goats help to prevent disease. These animals are fed a variety of hay free choice along with a bit of grain (screenings) twice a day. The only supplements they receive are two different kinds of salt blocks, one plain and one with mineral. This is the first year we will have certified organic beef that was raised on our farm. We have been selling it cut and wrapped by the piece and it has all been done a federally inspected processing facility.
