We are participating in OACC’s wheat seeding trials and what you see here is a field of Hard Red Spring Wheat which has strips of different rates of seed. Normally I use 2 bushels of wheat per acre, but we’ve got strips of 1, 1.25, 1.5 and 3 bushels per acre of seed. The idea is to see what affects seeding rate has on weed competitiveness and yield. This is field 4 and was summer fallowed last year with composted manure applied on the higher ground. I hope to apply some compost tea to the field as well this summer as part of the trial.
