Bait traps for wireworms were installed to monitor wireworm population levels. The wireworm traps consist of a plastic plant pot filled with vermiculite, wheat kernels, and sliced carrots. Carbon dioxide emitted from the germinating wheat and decomposing carrots attracts wireworms to the traps, enticing wireworms to enter the traps to feed.
