Oilseed (or naked-seeded) pumpkin. photo by Roxanne Beavers

Oilseed (or naked-seeded) pumpkin is a common crop in Austria and Germany that shows potential for Nova Scotia organic growers. The seeds have a high oil content (40-45%) and the oil possesses high levels of unsaturated fatty acids, zinc, and vitamin E. The mature seed (shown here) has nearly no seed coat.
