OACC Brookside Field Site – Nova Scotia Agricultural College (NSAC)Truro, Nova Scotia OACC Field Day 2006
Soybean in rolled down fall rye: Following the technique developed by
the Rodale institute, we are evaluating direct seeding options for soybean
into fall rye that has been rolled down at the flowering stage. Fall rye
flowering begins in early June; it should be rolled at 50-75% flower which
pushes soybean planting back to mid June. We rolled the rye down early
(May 29) and found that it tillered substantially. We mowed the early
tillers but still had more late tillers emerge. |
