Abstract
Slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) was applied at 50 or 100 kg/ha three times during leaf fall to protect apple trees against European fruit tree canker, caused by Nectria galligena.

Experiments in 3 years and demonstration trials in 2 years reduced significantly the number of newly formed cankers. The experiments showed an efficacy of 37 to 70 % with respect to the untreated control.
