Farm Description
Four Seasons Farm, family run since 1992, specializes in organic vegetable
and herb production for restaurants and hotels in the Halifax area,
as well as for the Halifax Farmers Market, the largest market in the
Maritimes.
The farm is six acres of field crops, heated greenhouses and high
tunnels. A nearby property of 65- acres is divided into cover crops,
medicinal herbs and blueberries with further planning open-ended. Both
farms are certified organic and are located alongside the mudflats of
the Cobequid Bay of the Gloosecap bike trail.
Work Experience/Skills Desired
Four Seasons Farm offers internships /apprenticeships to those who are
enthusiastic and motivated, with no hands-on experience necessary.
Specific Educational Opportunities Offered
Farm work provides experience and the opportunity to learn all aspects
of growing organically whether in the greenhouses or fields from seed
to harvest: compost making, soil and bed preparation, cover cropping,
crop rotation, greenhouse building, season extension, tractor work,
irrigation maintenance, trellising and pruning, harvesting, cooking
with< quality ingredients and the farmers market.
There is individual instruction, group demonstrations, and working
with one another to pass along skills. There is also the support of
an agricultural library and the chance to meet many others involved
in the field.

Accommodations
Single or double room in a large, comfortable house or a two person
trailer.
