Ganapathi Shanmugam
M.Sc.(Ag) candidate
I am currently working on my second year of my Master's program at NSAC,
and Dr. Phil Warman is my supervisor.
I was brought up in a city in India, with an urban setup and didn't have
much rural exposure. I thought agriculture was going to be of no interest
to me. But slowly I had a growing interest in it and realized that I have
become a part of a vibrant research community. I was given a good agriculture
background during my undergraduate study in India and decided to update
it with a global perspective.
I chose NSAC for my Master's degree, and I am working on "Organic
Small Fruits Production" - aiming at comparing organic and conventional
amendments in strawberry and half-high blueberry production. A comparative
study between organic amendments and chemical fertilizers is vital in
order to understand the feasibility of using organic amendments in place
of chemical fertilizers.
Organic agriculture is becoming one of the fastes-growing segments of
global agriculture, and I am really proud to be a part of this "organic
group".
