Composting and Compost Use - Instructor
Dr.
Derek Lynch P. Ag.
Derek is a Research Professor at the Organic Agriculture Centre of Canada,
NSAC and is a professional agrologist with over 20 years training and
experience in cropping systems and agricultural resource management. Derek's
research experience and interests include organic production systems,
nutrient management, compost production and use, legume physiology, productivity
of grassland and forage systems and utilization/commercialization of on-farm
and industry wastes. He holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. from McGill University
and his Ph.D. from the University of Guelph which focused on carbon and
nitrogen dynamics in composted-amended soils. As co-manager of a consulting
partnership for over eight years, Derek has provided advisory services
directly to the agricultural sector in the areas of soil fertility and
manure and compost management.
Derek is also an established lecturer and educator with experience in
the design and delivery of training programs in organic agriculture, composting
and nutrient management in academic and non-formal settings. He is certified
as a Master Composter Trainer by the Recycling Council of Ontario and
has delivered more than 100 workshops and short courses on composting
to residents, municipal staff and compost facility operators.
