I currently work with Nature’s Path Foods Inc. as their Organic
Program Manager. We are North America’s largest organic breakfast
cereal manufacturer. My duties include encouraging enough cropland to
be converted to Certified Organic, enabling our uninterrupted organic
production. I also help provide organic farmers (including those new to
organic) with access to organic agronomic resources, and growing and harvesting
techniques to ensure that the highest quality of organic crops are achievable.
I am active in organic sector developments and a member of: Canadian
Health Food Association’s Organic Advisory Council, - Independent
Organic Inspectors Association (past board member), - a committee to help
form a Canadian OTA, - the Organic Regulatory Committee, - and a committee
struck at Guelph Organic Conference to propose ways to form a Canadian
Organic Partnership .
I was educated as an agronomist in Norway where I grew up, and later
worked on several mixed farms and was the farm manager for Providence
Farm for 2 years, a therapeutic community operating a 400 acre farm
on Vancouver Island.
Gaining 14 years of experience as an independent organic inspector in
Western Canada, verifying a variety of organic crops from market gardens
to field grains and also complex processing has given me a unique perspective
and understanding of the organic sector.
I enjoy growing my own organic garden with my family, using mulch as
much as possible to avoid spending the whole summer weeding, leaving some
time for horseback trail-riding with my wife and daughter.
